In real life, wolves will track constantly, for weeks at a time, especially once the scent indicates an ill or injured animal is nearing death. It should be noted that not all tracking/hunting efforts will be successful as with a real life wolfpack. Wolves are opportunistic hunters but they are smart and will abandon a hunt should it prove too risky (i.e. injury, loss of stamina/energy, threat to pack, etc)
As a pack, the wolves hunt prey including elk, mule deer, white-tailed deer, javelina, big horned sheep, rabbits and other small mammals. They also scavenge dead animals.
Track & Hunting Rules:
1. Pack and Non-Pack alike may assist in tracking efforts
2. Privilege to hunt the territory is set aside for Pack only (see note)
3. You must have participated in the tracking process in order to hunt the prey tracked.
4. Pledges may begin participating in the hunt only when they show their hunting potential through their tracking efforts and prove they are able to follow the lead hunters. This comes with Alphas approval.
5. All are allowed to feast from prey killed once the Alphas then Pack then Pledges have had their fill.
6. A minimum number of wolves must be present during a hunt depending on the prey size. Medium prey requires 2 or more wolves. Large prey requires 4 or more wolves. Any pack member may hunt small prey.
Note: It is rare for non-pack to be invited to hunt but this may occur on few occasions, only once a visitor has proven themselves.
